Senior Writer / Editor, Procedures and Communications (Consultant)
Applying plain English and house style, I wrote, edited, updated, reorganized, standardized, and streamlined policies, procedures, manuals, bulletins, guidelines, and memoranda that applied to the Agency’s 16,000 employees from 80+countries; collaborated with departmental managers on writing new materials; researched and created engaging health campaigns; edited weekly Agency-wide communications that kept staff informed of policies and procedures; and designed and hosted a series of enjoyable PowerPoint presentations on common errors in English usage to equip employees with correct grammar and spelling.

Assistant to the Editor, Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering (JMSE)
The technical editor (a CU professor) and I collaborated with 20 associate editors, guest editors, authors from about 180 countries, international peer reviewers, and production personnel to create new policies that supported and strengthened the editorial publication process, halving the time that submissions spent in JMSE’s pipeline and increasing JMSE’s impact factor by a third. Submissions increased so significantly that JMSE became a monthly rather than a bi-monthly publication.

Writer / Project Manager (Consultant)
To write narrative progress reports for this global initiative to eliminate extreme poverty (which was so successful in the 15 African villages/communities where it was piloted that it has been scaled up), I compiled and culled the most salient information from logs of its field staff. The resulting progress reports were made available to all MPV stakeholders, including the governments of other countries.

On-site Creative Writing Instructor / Coach for Teens (Consultant)
Working with teens at three NYC public housing sites (two in Harlem, one on the Lower East Side), I facilitated their creative writing on topics that interested them, helping to give them voice and an increased desire for self-expression. Some read their work to senior NYCHA staff at a special performance at summer’s end—a first.

I edited GSS’s service plans to obtain renewed federal funding, tutored/taught their ESL teachers how to write essays that would enable them to pass state certification exams; and conducted focus-group and other research to co-author GSS’s 120-page tri-annual community assessment.

Writer / Editor: Teacher Handbook for Science Curriculum (Consultant)
I collaborated on writing and editing a two-part teacher handbook for a cutting-edge high school, NIH-funded science curriculum in low-income schools: (1) how to ask good questions for research; (2) translational research.

City University of New York (CUNY) - School of Professional Studies 2009-2012
Editorial Quality Assurance Specialist (Manager)
I developed a house style guide, reviewed and edited all (45-500 page) procedures and training manuals written by our 22-member team before submitting them to the client—the NYC Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE)—as part of a contract to devise and deliver technical job training to OCSE’s 800+ employees; I prioritized overlapping assignments; and I provided leadership that facilitated harmonious and productive collaboration.
